World And Olympic Records In Weight Lifting
Just starting out at the gym, and pretty impressed by the guys that can bench 350 pounds? Wait til you check out some of the Olympic records in weight lifting. They might not do a twenty reps of each weight lifting movement… but when you consider that they are lifting the weight of a Harley Davidson, that doesn’t seem to matter. Here are some of the biggest and best weight lifting efforts ever!
Halil Mutlu of Turkey
Holds the world weight lifting record for every discipline, the snatch (138kg), the clean and jerk (168kg) and total (305kg), in the under 56kg category. When you consider that only the smallest women weight less than 56kg, this weight lifting record is pretty impressive!
Hossein Rezazadeh
This Iranian man also holds all the weight lifting world records for the plus 105kg weight range, lifting 213 kg in the snatch, 263kg in the clean and jerk, and 472 kg total. His weight lifting records come from multiple places, all were set over the 2000 – 2004 period.
Liu Chunhong
This female weight lifter holds world records for every discipline in the under 69kg weight category. The Chinese female set her weight lifting records of 128kg for snatch and 158kg for clean and jerk all in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
